Meet Our Team

Kim Wagenaar

Chief Executive Offer

Kim has worked in health care for over thirty years and last twenty in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC). Kim has worked in FQHC’s Illinois, Colorado and North Carolina  where she has developed and managed programs that have provided primary care, oral and behavioral health in a variety of settings.  Kim is passionate about the providing high quality health care to those who may not have access otherwise.  She looks forward to working with the Asheville community and other Safety Net Partners in bringing affordable high quality health care here in Asheville and  to the surrounding communities.  

Dr. Todd Wallenius

Medical Director

Dr. Wallenius entered medicine with a desire to provide whole person, team based, integrated behavioral health primary medical care to individuals and families in a community health center setting.  After completing UNC School of Medicine at Chapel Hill, where he earned awards in Family Medicine, Community Service and The James Bell Bullitt Award in recognition of unusual achievement, Dr. Wallenius completed a Family Medicine Residency and Behavioral Medicine Fellowship at MAHEC.  Dr. Wallenius maintains certifications from the American Boards of Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine, and the American Academy of HIV Medicine.  Dr. Wallenius joined WNCCHS in 1998, and has served as Medical Director since 2012.

As a Licensed Therapist, Nivee espouses emotional wellness through positive healing based on dignity, respect and empowerment from holistic care perspective.

 

At WNCCHS, Nivee specializes in working with patients who have experienced past trauma (s), attachment issues, complicated grief and loss, co-morbid conditions related to Depression and Anxiety disorders as well as Substance Use Disorders. She has been trained in various evidenced based therapeutic modalities: Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy, Bi-Lateral Stimulation, Emotional Freedom Technique, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing, Screening Brief Intervention Referral for Treatment and Substance Abuse Education and Relapse Prevention.

 

Nivee has earned a Masters in Psychology (India) and Masters in Community Counseling (UNCC). She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC, NC), Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS, NC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC). She joined WNCCHS in 2008 and currently serves as Director of Behavioral Health. When not at work, Nivee loves to travel with family, hike, garden and cook elaborate Indian recipes.

Cody McKinney

Chief Financial Officer

Cody has over 30 years in the accounting and financial management arena.  He has 20 years in public accounting, including running his own CPA firm for twelve years where he focused on not-for-profit and governmental accounting and auditing. 

Cody has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and a Masters of Business Administration from Regis University.  As a dedicated life-long learner, he has also attended Warren Wilson College and Appalachian State University.  Cody has served on Boards of Directors of numerous not-for-profit organizations, and is a past member of the Spruce Pine Rotary Club. 

Cody is a member of Western North Carolina Church in Spruce Pine, NC.  His wife is Sherry Hughes McKinney, and he has two sons, Dexter Boone and Dane McKinney.  His most proud moment was being named “Father of the Year” by WLOS TV in Asheville in 2009 for his commitment to caring for his son with cerebral palsy.  His hobbies include fly fishing, watching soccer and UNC Tar Heels sports, early American history, and data analytics.

Dr. Kasee Metcalf

Dental Director

Dr. Kasee Metcalf is a general dentist. She received a BS in Biology from Wake Forest University and attended dental school at UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Metcalf completed residency training at MAHEC in Asheville. A native of western North Carolina, Dr. Metcalf was happy to return to the mountains to practice dentistry. In her free time she enjoys backpacking, travelling, and the Asheville food scene.  Recently, she has made four trips to Haiti to provide free dental services. She and her husband have a puppy named Dallas.

Thomas "Del" Kennedy

Director Of Human Resources

Thomas D. “Del” Kennedy is an experienced professional with an extensive background in business.  During his career he has previously worked for United Parcel Service, Coca-Cola Consolidated, HMS Host, and ProBuild.  Having earned an Associate in Applied Science degree in Business Administration and another in Accounting, he returned to college and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Development.  With more than thirty years of experience he has a well-rounded knowledge of business operations and the human assets required for success.
