Carmen Robinson, M.D.

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Carmen Robinson serves as Chief Medical Officer at Western North Carolina Community Health Services (WNCCHS). She joined the organization in 2023 and brings broad experience across academic, corporate, and community health care settings, with a deep commitment to serving underserved and historically marginalized populations.

Dr. Robinson attended Pine Forge Academy, one of the four remaining historically Black boarding academies in the United States, before continuing her education at Oakwood (College) University and Winston-Salem State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology. She completed her medical degree at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and went on to complete her residency at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM).

During residency, Dr. Robinson was appointed Chief Resident of the Family & Community Medicine residency program at Baylor and participated in the didactics and training that supported Ben Taub General Hospital’s Baby-Friendly designation. Following residency, she became board certified in Family Medicine and served as faculty in the BCM Family & Community Medicine department. Prior to joining WNCCHS, she served as Chief Medical Officer at Triad Adult & Pediatric Medicine in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Dr. Robinson is passionate about health maintenance and disease prevention and is committed to empowering patients and communities with the knowledge and tools needed to pursue positive health strategies. Her approach emphasizes whole-body wellness, including mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. She is deeply motivated by the opportunity to provide high-quality primary care to underserved communities that have historically faced barriers to access and disproportionate burdens of chronic disease.

Dr. Robinson is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, where she participates in mentorship and community service initiatives. She is also a classically trained lyric soprano and has performed with Piedmont Opera and North Carolina Opera.
