Dr. Sal D’Angio
Family Medicine Physician
WNCCHS—Minnie Jones Health Center
Dr. Sal D’Angio is a family physician who brings decades of experience in primary care and holistic, patient-centered medicine to WNCCHS. He spent much of his early life in Philadelphia, where he attended the University of Pennsylvania for college, earned his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College, and completed his family practice residency through the Temple University Hospital System.
Following residency, Dr. D’Angio completed a Faculty Development Fellowship that was among the first in the country to devote a significant portion of its training to integrative medicine. His training included acupuncture and Chinese medicine, Western herbalism, meditation and breathing techniques for health, homeopathy, and nutritional approaches to healing. He later helped found a complementary medicine practice in Stockton, New Jersey, that incorporated a variety of alternative therapies and providers.
Seeking a change from the growing development around New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania, Dr. D’Angio and his family relocated to Western North Carolina. He joined the Indian Health Service and enjoyed the region’s vibrant creative community and outdoor culture. Dr. D’Angio continued to emphasize a holistic, whole-person approach to care while working in emergency medicine, primary care, and skilled nursing care at the VA in Asheville.
Dr. D’Angio lives in Black Mountain with his spouse. Outside of work, he enjoys composing and playing music and spending time with his two daughters, their families, and his young grandson.
