One Year Later: Our Helene Stories
Reflections on WNCCHS Staff Who Helped Make a Difference After the Storm
This Saturday marks one year since Hurricane Helene and the catastrophic flooding that devastated Western North Carolina. The storm changed our lives, our landscapes, and daily routines for nearly everyone in its path — including our families, our neighbors, and our patients.
Looking back, we remember the hardship. But even more, we remember the resilience, compassion, and teamwork that defined our response. So many WNCCHS staff members showed up for our patients and community when it mattered most.
During the Sept All Staff Meeting this week, we played a slideshow that shared a few of these stories. We know however, that countless others pitched in wherever they were needed, often while facing personal challenges at home.
